Community sculpture contest seeks local artists for new walking path installations

Posted

Love Where You Live has announced an open call for artists to participate in a community sculpture contest that will bring original, outdoor artwork to the CVRMC/BHP Walking Path outside Miami Gardens. The contest is open to local creatives in the Copper Corridor and will result in the installation of permanent sculptures along the public walking path.

The project is funded through grants from the Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center Foundation and Freeport McMoRan, with the goal of enhancing public spaces while celebrating local creativity. Three artists will be selected and awarded contracts of $2,500 each to fabricate and install original sculptures suitable for outdoor display.

Artists are invited to submit proposals for three-dimensional works made from durable, weather-resistant materials such as metal, stone, wood, or mixed media. Sculptures must be at least four feet along one dimension and designed to be securely attached to a cement pad along the walking path. Both emerging and experienced artists are encouraged to apply. Prior sculpture experience is welcome but not required.

Applications must include a brief artist bio, a sculpture concept description, and either a photograph of an existing piece or a drawing of a proposed design. Submissions will be reviewed by a selection jury, with winning contracts announced by March 15, 2026.

The application deadline is March 1, 2026. Completed applications may be submitted as a hard copy or emailed to livable2lovable@gmail.com. Selected artists must be able to complete their sculptures and have them ready for installation by May 2026.

For questions about the contest or application process and to receive an application, interested artists may contact Regina Ortega at 808-373-0032.

This project reflects a shared commitment to community pride, creative expression, and the enhancement of public spaces through locally created art.  Love Where You Live is a local nonprofit organization committed to turning livable spaces into lovable places.
