Miami Rotary leads the way to establish a Story Walk

MIAMI,AZ- Story Walk coming to Miami

Copper Cities Rotary Club, in partnership with First Things First and Arizona Reads, along with the approval of the Town of Miami, is in the process of creating a permanent Story Walk in front of Bullion Plaza.

A StoryWalk is taking the pages of children’s storybook and displaying them along a trail that families and students can enjoy, while also encouraging early literacy and physical activity.  Research shows that children who are engaged in reading at an early age are more likely to succeed in higher education and have better outcomes in life.  Economic factors also play a role in literacy learning, and in areas where there are low-income families, studies show that reading has already become an issue for children entering grade school.

We believe that providing a fun and active way to read to your child that brings families together and encourages physical activity at the same time is a win-win for our community, and StoryWalk is the answer.

Other community partners with the StoryWalk project include Gila Community College and Azteca Glass, who will be instrumental in constructing the platforms and providing the plexiglass for the pages of the stories.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor of the StoryWalk or would like more information, please email Copper Cities Rotary Club President Luke Kannegaard at  lucaskannegaard@gmail.com. We meet every Tuesday at 12:05 p.m. at the Core Valley Regional Medical Center.

The StoryWalk™ Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition (VBPC) and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.
