Cubitto Jewelry Building-1905

Simply Sarah’s – Since 2000

Joseph Cubitto immigrated to the United States from Europe in 1902 and settled in Globe around 1903. He started his own jewelry store in 1905, then relocated Cubitto Jewelry to 386 N. Broad Street in 1913. The building’s foundation was poured with concrete and built in the Vernacular Commercial fashion. The family continued the business for over 75 years.
A charming detail to the interior of the building is the mezzanine overlooking the entire store. This was originally used as a boss’s office to oversee what was happening. Around 1930, ceramic tile and aluminum siding were added to give the building an Art Deco feel. There was a second Cubitto Jewelry in Miami operated by one of the Cubitto brothers. Many ladies who worked at the nearby brothel at the Keystone Hotel frequently shopped at Cubitto Jewelry.
