At its May 27 meeting, the Town of Miami tabled approval of its tentative 2025–2026 budget at the request of Town Manager Alexis Rivera. The delay follows recent updates Rivera made to projected grant revenues, increasing the total from $150 million to $207 million as the Town pursues major infrastructure funding.
Rivera noted that the revised budget includes $900,000 earmarked for repairs to the Miami Memorial Library. He also announced a May 30 meeting between Town staff, Freeport-McMoRan, and State Representatives Walter Blackman and David Marshall to explore additional infrastructure support.
In project updates, Rivera said LED lighting upgrades began at Town Hall on May 27, with work at the library scheduled for July. A walk-through of the Police Department for air conditioning proposals was planned for May 29.
Council approved the purchase of two new police vehicles from San Tan Ford.
Another agenda item—repairing the concession stand floor at Hostetler Pool—was also tabled to allow time for a third estimate, in line with Town policy. The County Health Department has given the Town 45 days to comply following the pool’s grand reopening on May 27.
The Council also welcomed remarks from Miss Cactus Blossom Sorrin Garcia, who called for local participation in the Miss Arizona Scholarship Organization. She expressed interest in reviving titles like Miss Miami and Miss Gila County. Vice Mayor Sammy Gonzales voiced support, saying, “There are a lot of good things that can come from re-establishing this.”
