Copper Spike adds meal service in the Dome Car

The Copper Spike Excursion Train will be offering meal service in the Dome Car this season, including both a lunch menu and a dinner menu. Yesterday, local residents were treated to a trial run and a free meal before the official launch of Season 3 begins on Thursday.

Harking back to a time when white linen table cloths and waiters in white jackets were the de riguer, the Dome Car offers a step back in time and a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.

The trip has been extended by a half hour this year, making the round trip excursion two hours, instead of the hour and half. The extra time allows for the additional needs of meal service.

The lunch menu which is reasonably priced between $7- $9, includes a variety of options from Breast of Chicken and Salmon with rice pilaf, to Cobb Salad, and hot Philly Sandwiches. There is even a kids menu with Peanut Butter and Jelly or Grilled cheese sandwiches.

Copper Spike will offer a Dinner Menu on Friday and Saturday evening with a departure at 6PM.  The four course dinner will begin with an appetizer, salad, entree and dessert with beverage choice of coffee, tea, or soda.  Beer, wine and cocktails can be ordered off the menu and billed accordingly.

The Dinner Menu will include larger proportions and additional choices including prime rib.  All food is cooked and prepared fresh on board. Reservations are required and tickets for the Dinner Train are $50 which includes both your train fare and meal service tax and gratuity.

Wine and Beer will be offered with meal service and in the new Mardis Gras club car.

  1. “A step back in time” is right. There was nothing ‘paper or plastic’ about this dining experience while watching the scenery roll by.

The food looked ‘magazine perfect’ and was excellent! Thank you to the entire Copper Spike crew for re creating this tasty rail journey!
