Critically-Acclaimed Author to Visit Globe Public Library

Tucson-based author Nancy E. Turner will discuss her two historical fiction novels “These Is My Words” and “Resolute” at Globe Public Library tomorrow, starting at noon.

“These Is My Words,” based on the life of her great-grandmother, traces the experiences of one woman’s survival in the Arizona Territory during the late 19th century. The novel received critical acclaim by the likes of the Washington Post and USA Today, and as of 2012 sold more than 120,000 copies.

Turner’s new release, “My Name Is Resolute,” tells the story of Resolute—a woman stolen from her life in Jamaica and brought to the U.S. to become a slave—during the years leading up to the American Revolution.

When it comes to writing, “My story is never far from my mind,” Turner says. “I create characters by mingling traits of people… I believe the locale of a story can be as much a part of the book as a character, and I use settings I know well enough to describe in detail.”

Turner has a triple major in creative writing, music, and ceramics from the University of Arizona.
