Senate Candidate, Jim Moss says Rep. Kyrsten Sinema is Not the Best Choice for Voters

GLOBE, Ariz. — Jim Moss, a Democratic candidate seeking the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., says in response to the entry of his primary opponent Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., into the race, “I do not believe that Congresswoman Sinema is the best choice for Arizona primary voters in the upcoming 2018 election. Arizonans deserve a U.S. senator who will give voice to their genuine concerns and aspirations.”

Sinema, who announced her candidacy Sept. 28, is both the chairwoman of the Blue Dog PAC and a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, an official caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“She has strategically positioned herself as a Conservative Democrat,” Moss says.
According to ProPublica, a nonprofit investigative journalism organization, Sinema votes against her party more than 20 percent of the time, and the statistical analysis website FiveThirtyEight reports that Sinema’s votes have aligned with President Trump’s 50 percent so far this year.

Sinema sits on the House Committee on Financial Services.

“Congresswoman Sinema’s most reliable corporate donors come from the business sectors that the committee she sits on is tasked to oversee,” Moss says. “Sinema, a prolific corporate fundraiser, has demonstrated zero concern about serious campaign finance reform. That’s precisely the kind of congressional behavior that Arizona citizens do not appreciate.”

Getting corporate money out of politics is central to Moss’ campaign. Moss has pledged that he will not accept ‘one dime’ from corporate PACs.

“The most corrosive effect on our democracy is the influence of corporate money,” he says. “My campaign is a grassroots movement, and I am relying on ‘real people’ for contributions.”

Sinema has made it a point to tout her bipartisan approach to politics. Roll Call has quoted her stating, “I’m working to make it cool to compromise in Congress.”

“Bipartisanship is only positive if the public policy outcome improves the quality of life for all Arizonans,” Moss says. “Most of Sinema’s bipartisan votes do just the opposite. Her ‘high marks’ for bipartisanship are nothing to be proud of.”

“My message to Arizonans is a common sense, yet bold and progressive one,” he adds. “I am fighting for universal health care, affordable college, comprehensive immigration reform, huge infrastructure and renewable energy investments, and for a 28th Amendment to get the corrupt influence of money out of politics.”
