Globe City Council Highlights, Dec. 16

Globe Miami Times is now covering Globe City Council meetings on a regular basis. We will provide highlights of each meeting, and return to key issues at a later date with in-depth reports. As always, we invite you to weigh in on any of the issues!

Dec. 16 highlights:

  • City passed its annual compliance inspection from AZDEQ for Pinal Creek wastewater facility.
  • System water plan reviewed and approved by AZ Dept. of Water Resources for next five years.
  • City awarded $2500 from Capstone Mining to Pinal Gila Council Foundation for Meals on Wheels.
  • Office of Attorney General found that complaints against City of Globe for violating open meeting law were unsubstantiated.
  • The city is feeling the strain of staffing and liability demands for special events (Veteran’s Day, Oktoberfest, etc.), so it is considering sponsoring four to five events, and beyond that requiring event organizers to contract their own services.
  • A public meeting is set for Jan. 11, 2015 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at City Council Chambers regarding special events.
  • The budget for the 2015-2016 fiscal year is underway – staff will submit budget requests by Jan. 5, 2014; public meetings with council regarding budget to begin in March.
  • City manager Brent Billingsley was authorized to negotiate/sign a cooperative defense agreement regarding a claim filed against city.
  • The city approved an IGA (intergovernmental agreement) so that Gila County could provide $10,000 to Globe for its Meals on Wheels program.
  • Council created a Mayor’s Task Force for Housing and Code Enforcement.
